The Midwestern Canines

Wyndham Garden Hotel 2969 Cahill Main, Fitchburg

A number of the members of the Midwestern Canines are also members of the Original Salty Dog Band (get it?) and they’re coming to Madison to present a jazz performance in the “Dog’s” tradition and style.  Members are: Andy Schumm, cornet; Kim Cusack, reeds; Tom Bartlett, trombone; Mike Walbridge, tuba; Jim Barrett, banjo; Mike Albiniak, drums and Jeremy Kahn, piano.  An exciting high school jazz combo, Happy Feet, will perform in an extended break during the concert.  This concert will bring back many memories and introduce us to some young people who are the future of jazz in Madison.

West End Jazz Band with David Boeddinghaus

Wyndham Garden Hotel 2969 Cahill Main, Fitchburg

The West End Jazz Band recreates the classic music that typifies the twenties and thirties using original arrangements and instrumentation that is true to the style of the era. Their repertoire consists of a broad representation of the music of this golden age, hot and sweet dance and jazz.  Featured are the pure jazz numbers, the nonsense songs, the up-tempo tunes and the beautiful ballads. The band's book is full of great standards and obscure songs, as well as a number of straight dance medleys and waltzes that reflect the romantic and sweet side of that era.  Joining the band will be special guest David Boeddinghaus on piano.  Members: Mike Bezin, cornet & drums; Leah LaBrea, banjo, guitar & vocals; Andy Schumm, cornet; Dave Bock, tuba; Frank Gualtieri, trombone & Josh Duffee, clarinet and sax.  The afternoon will open with a set by the Verona High School Jazz Band.  www.westendjazzband.com
