Madison Jazz Jam & Workshops with ContraBand & Sally De Broux

ContraBand is an improvising trio that interprets a variety of styles ranging from video game music to folk songs. The group formed unexpectedly when the three side-men realized a shared love for interpreting music from popular culture in new and unexpected ways. Going from being a side man to leading a group is challenging, and ContraBand’s success as a smoothly running band has rested on a sharing of responsibilities off the bandstand that translates to communicative improvisational practice on the bandstand. This workshop will be especially helpful for musicians trying to get their project off the ground, and for those looking to improve their “communication” skills (musically and otherwise) on the bandstand.
