The Isthmus Jazz Fest will run for 10 days, from Friday 6/7 through Sunday 6/16, with concerts and other jazz-related events each day at traditional and non-traditional venues all over town, including the traditional two days of free concerts on the UW Memorial Union Terrace (6/14-15).  The full Fest schedule is now posted at www.isthmusjazzfestival.com. Among the Fest events are Madison Jazz Society's 35th Anniversary Dance Party & Mini-Fest featuring the New Century Jazz Orchestra on Sunday afternoon, 6/9, at the Wyndham Garden Hotel and the Madison Music Collective-produced concert by Chicago-based saxophonist Mai Sugimoto's quartet + Madison's Anders Svanoe Trio at the new Winnebago Arts Cafe. The Jazz Fest will kick off on 6/7 at 5:00 PM with the Jazz Consortium's "Strollin' Monroe Street" event, with 10 bands performing a stylistically-diverse array of jazz styles at 5 venues over 6 hours, with no cover charges, on the 1500-1900 blocks of Monroe Street.  Volunteers are needed to help the event run smoothly.  If you'd be able to put in a shift or two, please view the shift options on the sign-up sheet at (where you'll also see the event's performance schedule): https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B054DAEAD2CAAFE3-strollin2

The Madison Jazz Society will continue the year-long celebration of its 35th anniversary with a free year-end party featuring music and dance performances.  The New Century Dance Orchestra, which was scheduled to perform at the Society's cancelled February concert, will provide music for listening and dancing. The band recreates the jazzy dance band sounds from the roaring twenties into the swing style of the 1930s. The ten-piece band is reminiscent of the Paul Whiteman Orchestra and the earliest music of Duke Ellington – the generation of “big band” music that preceded the swing era. Special guest Chloe Feoranzo, direct from New Orleans, is a clarinetist and saxophonist who has been performing professionally since the age of 15. She is a freelance musician and full-time member of Shake 'Em Up Jazz Band and has been touring part-time with Postmodern Jukebox. Chloe will perform with the New Century Dance Orchestra and be part of the special jazz tap performance during the afternoon. During the afternoon, the Beautiful Friendship Double Trios (jazz tap dance & music) will provide a performance filled with history and innovation. Musicians and dancers will improvise, melody will sometimes be carried by a dancer and you will see musicians move to the music. Tap dancers will create the groove (or beat) while musicians produce the mood and melody. The double trio will be a mixture of these two art forms that will be fun to see and hear. The Dance Trio will be Katherine Kramer, Jenai Cutcher and Donna Peckett. […]
