MJS Presents the West End Jazz Band
February 19 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Kicking off our final four concerts in 2023 will be the West End Jazz Band. During the 1920s and 1930s, America’s music came of age in dance and jazz. The West End Jazz Band recreates the classic music typifying that era using original arrangements and instrumentation that is true to the style of the era. The band’s repertoire consists of a broad representation of the music of this golden age. Featured are pure jazz numbers, nonsense songs, up-tempo tunes and beautiful ballads. The band’s extensive book is full of great standards, obscure songs, as well as a number of straight dance medleys and waltzes that reflect the romantic and sweet side of that era. For over 35 years, the West End Jazz Band (shown here when they performed at our September 2017 concert) has recreated the classic music that typifies that era. The band has performed at some of the most prestigious jazz festivals, played concerts throughout the U.S. and toured Europe. Originally, most of the members of West End were from the west side of the Chicago, from which the band takes its name. The band now includes the best musicians in the country for this genre no matter where they are from. Members: Andy Schumm, cornet; Eric Schneider, reeds; Frank Gualitieri, trombone; Leah Bezin, banjo; Dave Bock, tuba & Mike Bezin, drums.
