New Century Dance Orchestra–CANCELLED
February 24 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Due to the erratic (at best) weather forecast for this weekend, the MJS Board of Directors has cancelled the concert scheduled for this Sunday, February 24, featuring the New Century Dance Orchestra. The Board has been “going back and forth” about this decision all week but, in the interests of the safety of our audience, we decided to cancel. We believe that most of you agree with this decision since some expressed concerns about coming to the event. Please help us notify others about this cancellation by contacting people who you know might have planned to attend. We will hire the band to appear at an MJS event later this year. Stay safe and warm this weekend and, as always, thank you for your support of the Madison Jazz Society!!
Based in Fond du Lac, the New Century Dance Orchestra recreates the jazzy dance band sounds from the roaring twenties into the swing style of the 1930s at the second concert of the Madison Jazz Society’s year-long 35th anniversary celebration. The ten-piece band is reminiscent of the Paul Whiteman Orchestra and the earliest music of Duke Ellington – the generation of “big band” music that preceded the swing era. The band uses arrangements from the music libraries of three bands that enjoyed consider-able regional popularity from the 1920s through the 1940s.
