Discover Jazz, In-School Programming – We believe in the power of jazz education to inspire and empower young minds. We organize interactive school visits where jazz artists perform and introduce students to improvisation. We then invite students to participate in community jazz programming to further explore and develop skills and knowledge of this art form. These immersive experiences provide students with valuable insights into the history, influence, and practical application of improvisation in daily life.

Community Jam Sessions, Workshops, and iGnitE jAzz! – Jazz is inherently collaborative and inclusive, and our community offerings reflect these values. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or a novice enthusiast, our community programs provide a welcoming space for musicians of all ages and abilities to explore the rich improvisational traditions of jazz. We also provide monthly workshops and partner with other arts organizations to provide a variety of community jazz educational activities.

LMS School Grants and Networking – We recognize the importance of financial support for classroom music teachers. To this end, our Linda Marty Schmitz School Grant Fund provides grants to deserving schools. Grants support their in-school and extracurricular jazz programming. MJS also works to develop collaborative relationships with local school music teachers and students at area middle and high schools, and with the University of Wisconsin Jazz Studies department. MJS creates avenues of communication and awareness for jazz educational opportunities in our broader community.
